Thought this couple deserved a thread of their own. Their murder happened in 1964,in San Diego. Their case has many overtones of both the Domingos/Edwards attack, and the Berryesa attack. I hope some others have some info to add to this.

Mapquest says that San Diego & Santa Barbara/Lompoc area or 3 hours apart. But right in the middle is Riverside, and I think most of would agree that Z was there in 66-67.

Interesting that a box of candy was found with the bodies. Not sure if it was carried by the victims or was some kind of calling card by the killer. Z never left calling cards, as far as I know..well maybe the watch at the Bates scene if he did that.

Then you have this article that states the similarities between the Domingos/Edwards murders and that of the Swindles

I have discovered something that may be a clue possibly linking this crime to a confirmed Zodiac murder. It is pretty interesting. After a little more research, I will share the details.

NIN, thanks again for more great recon photos. If the Swindles were kileld in that little area in the red square, he didnt seen to mind being close to houses. He must have though for sure that the shots would be drowned out by the waves.

By the way NIN, anyway to rotate around and get a look from the edge of the water up towards the wall?

What a coincidence that the EUREKA card seems to depict a "J" and 2 keys..I don't think it is connected to the Swindle case, I just thought I post it anyways. Who knows. Perhaps the Swindle case - if zodiac was the perp- is supposed to be one "key" to his identity?

Before we get off topic, we should end teh Eureka key/letter discussion here. Since there is some interest in it, anyone would be willing to start a thread about it in the unconfirmed letter section

It would seem that the killer was staying near by, and had seen them on nights prior to the killing.
As if he laid in wait for them to take their nightly walk.

All of the pictures were very good to get a better idea of where the killer must have hidden. This one to me was premeditated.
I would like to know who the friends were, who would be keeping a eye out on Mrs Swindel while Johnny was gone ?
These beach shootings also reminded me of the Jenner couple a few yrs back ,who were planning their wedding. They were shot at close range, each once in the head. Neither rape or robbery was the motive in that case.
Nin your connection to the "Key" clue and Mrs. Swindel is not that far out ! Its stuff like that, that is in the mind set of the Zodiac. Its like a game of connecting the dots.

I find this case interesting, and I was unable to find out much about it via other sites so thanks for posting.

I had wondered that if Z was responsible for SB - and I find the similarities to LB striking, what did he do up until Bates in late 66?

Do some of you believe that Z was a Californian who moved South to North?

What did he do? Struggle with his murderous urges, perhaps - I'm thinking fear of capture may have ruled him over at this early stage.

And yes, the moving south to north thing is what I think, too.

LOL, NIN, I dont even remember what I wa stalking about. Maybe it didnt pan out since I dont remember anything major that might tie the two together.

No problem, morf. I am always getting back to the Swindle case for some reason. Let me know if you have any new thought about the killings, even if it is only a tidbit.
