PostSubject: The strange case of Bob Lord   Tue Dec 06, 2011 7:25 am

Actually not likely a Zodiac crime but possible something he took inspiration from?

Bob Lord was found dead on a banana wharf in New Orleans, shot in the head with one bullet and lying down with his arms extended over the side of the wharf. On the body there was a note saying"He accidently knew too much" "Too bad !". The note signed with the cross-hair circle was pinned on to his overcoat. Someone had ripped all ID from his clothing. They did find the address card of his “girlfriend” in Wichita,Shirley Bob Jones,16.This is how the police ID'd Lord in the beginning.

When a diver went down in the waters just below his body. He found the .25 cal. with one bullet missing.
Why a 'gunman would want to write a note by match light and even place an exclamation mark 'was ridiculous to the police said Chief Det.John Crosch of LA.City. He said it was definitely a suicide.

Although detectives did classify it as a suicide, the coroner felt it was homicide.
according to The Salt Lake Tribune (11-12-38) Dr. C. Grenes Cole, coroner (terming the death a homicide) said the man had been shot through the top of the head, while wearing his hat, by a small caliber bullet. No powder burns were discovered and the coroner estimated the death weapon had been fired at least six feet away from the victim.

Who was Bob Lord?
Alfred M.(Bud)Lord was born in Yuma,AZ in 1918 to mr/mrs.Frank B.Lord. The family moved from Yuma to San Diego,CA in 1923.
Lord attended SD Senior HS. He was involved in drama activities, literature, plays, etc. He won or was recognized in Pasadena,CA for his work at one point. The family lived at 6335 Imperial Av.
He possibly left his home in SD Nov.3 1938. He had visited his girlfriend (after his death she said they were just good friends) in Santa Ana ,CA while she was visiting her mother in Ocean Be.CA.

He told her that someone wanted him dead and that he was followed by "him". He left her for LA. He had about $40.00 on him in cash.
It was found he had checked into a small hotel in LA. under the name Poudah Mannering. The address he gave as his residence was 200 6th St and even Av. proved to be a vacant lot.
The family later said this was one of the characters he had once played.

After his dead the police didn't believe that the story Bob was telling his "girlfriend" was true. Still...could he have used an alias and false address because someone WAS after him?

I find the similarities in the Z-letters and the Bob Lord paper chilling….
Of the few people who commit murder, only an extremely small percentage feel the need to taunt. Of that small percentage, the number who would choose a symbol as a signature in a taunting note or letter has to be absolutely minuscule.

There were 30 years between the Bob Lord case and the Zodiac crimes. If Zodiac was involved in the Bob Lord case he would have been quite young and doing his crimes as the Zodiac, a middle-age man.

Lord's case was read by many in detective magazines over the years as they had a habit of recyling old cases. most likely Z may have read this case and taken some 'inspiration' from it.
