| At the request of a good Z friend, I thought I'd pop in and offer up some info from my recent trip to visit Margo St. James, political activist extraordinaire and Paul Avery's widow. I've been researching Avery for several years now (it's a never-ending project, trust me) and have become good friends with St. James as a result. St. James lives on Orcas Island, off the coast of Washington state. She moved to Washington with Paul when he became seriously ill in the 90's and cared for him there until his death in 2000. I visited Margo to aid her in the organization of her files as she begins writing her own memoirs. In exchange, I received access to any of Paul's things I could find-- no small task, as Margo's things are spread out between several houses, all inhabited by many (fascinating) people in the years following Paul's death. Still, I have been endlessly lucky, as Paul was a dedicated chronicler and labeled everything he owned with his distinct signature-- "YrsTrlyAvery". Paul's own copy of Graysmith's ZodiacAlmost all of Paul's books are still around, as well as his sizable cassette and VHS collection (which I cataloged), but I didn't find any of his working papers. Most of the things I found were personal relics (fascinating and endearing in their own right), but 'the box' containing his Zodiac papers, his Voices of Guns drafts, his notes, his unpublished writings, any of that, remained just out of reach. It will take a lot of digging to find, if these things still exist. Margo St. James is incredible and I urge each of you to look her up. She's an inspiration to me, and our friendship continually thrills me. Hilarious, compassionate and brave, Margo is impossible not to love. As Paul once wrote, "One can't truly know Margo and not love her." St. James and I My favorite photo of Margo and Paul-- their wedding photo. |

| Great stuff Britta. Paul Avery (Halloween card aside etc) no doubt received a lot of material and information both from the police and from members of the public. He received the initial tip about CJB and I would love to know more about that correspondence with the so called Phil Sins and about his experiences with the SFPD or more importantly what info was being drip fed around about the case. Hopefully you can gain access/insight to some of his personal papers if Margo approves. Mind you if she's writing a book about her own memoirs she may keep the juicy stuff to herself . |

| I never, ever got the feeling Margo would keep anything of Paul's from me-- it's simply a matter of FINDING any of it. There are boxes and boxes and boxes to go through (Paul's stuff is largely mixed in with Margo's), and I simply didn't have the time this trip. Hopefully my next stay can be much longer and I can go through everything thoroughly. |

| Hi-
I had contact with Margo in the early 2000s and she was quite helpful to me. In fact, she was idirectly responsible for my locating Don Fouke! Obviously, the "Yrs Trly" can't help but make one think of the Exorcist letter. Very interesting, indeed!

Mike Britta, thanks for posting & sharing with us. Wonderful reporting on your part, and I for one look forward to more! Very Happy you are following your passion and learning more about Paul A., and meeting Margo....wow what an opportunity. I truly hope you go back soon and make some extra time to go thur all those boxes. (If you need a partner in crime, let me know...I could just sit there and go thur Paul's Boxes for days!!!) This is the opportunity to prehaps find that one piece of evidence for the case. Yes, Yrs Trly, wonder when he started signing that way? That's curious for sure. Zincerely, Zam PS Wonderful Pictures! Thanks for the inside glimpse of your adventure. SO exciting! | |

Yeah, I was wondering about that. Can Mr. X bring action against this forum for sharing the thoughts of the deceased? After all... WE'RE not accusing him of anything. |

| NACH & AQUIMAN bring up good points, and I dont want to find out, so Britta, don't be upset, but I have to edit that name out of your photo. I also edited out what I believe to be Mike R's address. | |
