| While searching for data on homicides in Benicia this serial killer turned up. I don't find any mention of him here on Zodiackillersite but he could at least be responsible for some of the homicides in northern California. A synopsis is on Wikipedia so use with caution: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randall_WoodfieldAnyone got an opinion on this guy? | |

| Thanks Morf.
According to the Wikipedia article, "he allegedly committed (crimes) along the Interstate 5 corridor running through Washington, Oregon, and California." It goes into more detail about a woman and her fourteen-years-old daughter being murdered in Mountain Gate, California. The article estimates he was a subject of interest in 44 cases, not all solved.
He, according to the article, started his strange behavior as a young adolescent. I also remember reading the statements made by the girls at Lake Berryessa about the male they saw being good-looking. I would think Woodfield would qualify for that. His is one of the few photos I've seen that actually looks like a "normal guy."

| Good points are he was a west coast serial killer bad points are he robbed and raped most victims and he was only 18 years old in 1969. | |

| He was eleven years old when first caught publicly exposing himself, making sexual jestures, and according to news reports his high school coaches covered for him numerous times so he could continue playing sports. He had to have been physically strong enough to kill at 18 (or perhaps younger) since he was reported as an excellent athlete plus the Green Bay Packers wanted him as a wide receiver.
Woodfield probably isn't Zodiac but he still could be responsible for some unsolved homicides. He killed at least three people and all this before 1981, among his other charges. I'm not married to any one particular person as the Zodiac Killer but then I don't have first-hand access to evidence either.
If I only knew why so much credence is put in the DNA testing for Zodiac it would help sort things out in my mind. Is it from the hair supposedly found under one of the stamps of a confirmed Zodiac letter plus a match between that and other items? Investigators must be very sure the DNA is from the killer if so many former suspects have been excluded on this one piece of data.
I suppose Woodfield should be excluded since the Zodiac seems to have had intimate knowledge of the various sites where he killed, plus, I believe the Domingoes/Edwards homicides were likely related to Zodiac. Woodfield was only 12 or 13 then.
Time for me to go back to sleep......

| Yah---he was the I-5 killer.
He did kill people in Shasta County (Redding area). Wouldn't surprise me at all if there were more. Not feeling him as Zodiac.

| The Pacific Northwest tends to produce an inordinate number of serial killers. Some say it is the gloomy rainy weather. Ted Bundy is another one. And Interstate 5 runs north to south all the way from Southern California through Mt Shasta, and all the way through Oregon and Washington. I read once where Bundy would return over and over to where he disposed of the girls bodies to covet. Perhaps Police one day will realize, instead of trampling all over crime scenes, they should leave everything and stake it out. Odds are he will return, if nothing more to see if he made mistakes, if he is still in control. Remember Scott Peterson returning to the Bay to just "visit". Remeber the little girl in Georgia, taken from the mobile home where the grandparents slept, through a muddy road to a nearby mobile home. The Police show up and never think to secure the area for footprints. He kept her alive for several days while they looked for her, eventually burying her alive in the backyard, just houses from where she was taken. Perhaps more education is in order. | |

Well, his "C's" do have that loop/blob at the point of beginning (top, right) and his baseline appears to have been written with the aid of a guide or ruler. But, yes, I doubt he is Zodiac. Thanks for posting the sample.

| It always amazes me that one person can look so different in various photos. I'm not sure I'd recognize Woodfield in the middle as the same as the person in the mug shot. That middle photo also reminds me of Ted Bundy.
