PostSubject: Marsh Creek Road property targeted on Z's map   Marsh Creek Road property targeted on Z's map EmptyTue May 08, 2012 6:19 am

I'm sure many people have noticed this before. On Z's map, he points out this spot:

Marsh Creek Road property targeted on Z's map Dkt8G

His target is centered on an area of the state park where there appears to be private property:

Marsh Creek Road property targeted on Z's map Oq29z

Notice the little gap in the green. Commence CSI zoom and enhance:

Marsh Creek Road property targeted on Z's map COEui

The address is 10030 Marsh Creek Road. What is the significance, if any, of Z marking this property on the map? Is there any connection between the property and any of the victims?

I wonder if the people who live there now know that a serial killer's map points to their house.

Not far away is the Marsh Creek Detention Facility, noted for housing Phillip Garrido who kidnapped Jaycee Dugard and kept her at his house in Antioch. Apparently he had been sent to the facility back in 1969.

Wow, thats pretty interesting, good work. Anybody up for doing a property records search for that house to see who lived there 43 years ago? Might be a dead end,but worth a shot.

IS that Contra Costa County??? If so, I have these listings in the 68 directory(some have no house #):I am going to go thru and check out each of these names to see if any appear interesting,or if they list them living at that address.

Leonard T. Atchley -Marsh Creek Rd-a man with this same exact name Lived in Riverside in 1970(related?).

Roy H. Skidmore MarshCreek(this name sounds familiar from Riverside...I will have to look further)EDIT-In the 66 Riverside Yearbook, there are a few SKIDMORES including a Russell R. Skidmore Jr. A man named Russell R. Skidmore was living in Napa in the 1970's. The reason this name is familiar is because there was a student(s) in Cheri Bates' HS with that last name. Might be interested to see if this guy with that name that lived in Riverside in 66,and then in Napa in the 70's,had a son. The guy in Napa would now be 96 years old( in his 50's during Z crimes)but a son, would have been around Cheri's age.

I believe the property currently belongs to Bob and Kris Nunn. Bob is the son of Ronald Nunn. The Nunns are a well-known family of ranchers and are involved with development in the area, including oil drilling.

PostSubject: Re: Marsh Creek Road property targeted on Z's map   Marsh Creek Road property targeted on Z's map EmptyTue May 08, 2012 9:28 am

More stuff I found about this property:

  • Some records show a house at this address was built in 1957. Contra Costa County GIS search shows more recent buildings being built in 2008 and 2009.
  • Here is a tax tract map from 1969 showing the property. I don't know how to read these, but I think the buildings are in the upper left corner of the map. I found the map via the Contra Costa County GIS search.
  • I have no idea who owned it back during Zodiac's heyday, but the property is recently connected to the well-known Nunn family of ranchers, real estate developers, and oil drillers. Connected names:

    • Sunset Exploration
    • Blackhawk Development Company (via Blackhawk-Nunn)
    • Ron Nunn Farms
    • The property is connected to the "Save Mount Diablo" organization, and is occasionally used to host hiking and stargazing events.

I can provide sources if needed. What do you make of all this???

We need boots on the ground to check out grantor/grantee records and ownership records for that property. We CAN find out who had the property in 68-70

Well, I overlaid the maps and it doesn't line up as well as I thought:

Marsh Creek Road property targeted on Z's map 9Jsgn

You can see there that the center of the target is not as close as I'd imagined. Oops. Sorry for the wild goose chase.

My understanding is that X is the Mt. Diablo Initial Survey Point

Seems like the X is directly on Mt Diablo, and the Arrow is making a direct hit on CLAYTON,which, personally, I think Z may be pointing to that town for some reason as a clue.

Miss Clayton, 19xx, should be along here soon to give us her take but it is interesting the arrow points right to the center of the word Clayton. The line 'should' be pointing to magnetic north, and it is almost parallel to the vertical orientation of the map, so it would have been hard not to point towards Clayton, but he could have run the line through it

@ bentley queen tongue

The "X" definitely marks the spot....where the observation tower is.

Not that there isn't any relevance to what doranchak posted.

I can tell you Clayton was boonies back then. Hey, maybe Zodiac lived in that house! But, it wouldn't cause very much of a stir if something blew up there.

Check this out - this is a super-quick video of Clayton and Mt. Diablo in the early 70's.
(We lived at 420 Mt. Tamalpias, at the base of Mt. D - you can see there is a whole lot of nothin'...and my Dad)

Raise your hand if you know of a POI that graduated with Cheri Jo Bates, and also wound up using addresses in BOTH Vallejo,& Clayton up until 1974(when the last confirmed Z letter came)before he moved back down to Riverside area, and whose name closely fits Zodiac's 'my name is' cipher.... cheers

Tahoe, were most houses on that road general delivery back in the 60's & 70's? Seems like in the directory from back then, there are very few listings that contain a house #

Can't speak for General Delivery, but most everyone had a PO Box.

Wonderful Old Videos, Tahoe! Thanks for sharing...you are so cute! Shows the area so well. It's still pretty much open space, with houses and ranches far apart. I was actually on Marsh Creek Road last Sunday. (It's a great road for a good drive, love taking the corners Smile In summoning up Marsh Creek Road & surrounding areas, it's truly Paradise.

PostSubject: Memories of Marsh Creek   Marsh Creek Road property targeted on Z's map EmptyTue May 08, 2012 3:50 pm

Very nice Tahoe ! A person in my family owned a ranch on Marsh Creek rd, and later bought the park with the horses and swimming pools that I use to swim and have picnics at when I was a teen. Very pretty there, but scary at night for women driving alone. There were a few ranches on that road back in the 60's

In 1994, I read about a older looking man, who would try and force lone women off of that road late at night. He would blink his lights and honk his horn like what was done to K.Johns. He also did that same thing on Vasco road at night. The same thing was done to me and a few other women on highway 4 late at night. I slammed on my breaks one night when a man tried to ram my car, and tried to force me off the highway ,I caused him to go off the road LOL.
That same thing took place in the 70's near Fairfield, could have been just another nut case, or the same man, who knows for sure ? ( There are plenty of them out there )

One evening Ed N. and I went to Marsh Creek rd to see what we could see there. Ed wanted to pull over and check out a monument there, while we were doing that (I decided to wait in the car) . Just then a man pulled over several feet behind us and then started to creep up closer. Ed walked fast back to the car and said lets get out of here, I don't like the way that car pulled up to us . We laughed about it later, because it was sooo creepy !

Oh man, '56 Bel Air 2dr, Hardtop Sort Coupe, be still my heart! Shouldn't have even been out in the snow. Yes, T27 is a cutey too, but those old Chevys don't exactly grow on trees. She sure it enjoying that snow, sign of future times perhaps. Wink

As has been said before, using the Mt. Diablo initial point, along with the radians reference is a pretty good indication he knew something about surveying.

Funny, my Dad just sold that because he didn't want to leave it out in the elements....snow and tree sap! Had that car around my entire life! Was a beaut!

You all are too kind by the way!

Sandy--ever driven the back road from Morgan Territory to Livermore/Pleasanton? Now that's one creepy ass road.

There is a funky fun bar down town Clayton that might still be there ? You might be thinking of the "Mountain House" bar ? It is on the eastern side of Mt Diablo near Byron, it had pool tables, live music, sort of what would be called a Biker bar .

If we dated I would have remembered you, you are still a handsome hunk !

I was thinking of the Junction Bar and Grill, much further down Mines Rd. near Livermore.
